About Us
SEPTA, the Locust Valley Special Education Parent Teacher Association, is a district-wide organization dedicated to supporting children with special needs and fostering an inclusive, accepting community. We work to promote and protect the educational interests of students with disabilities while also enhancing opportunities for academically advanced children. Our mission is to improve both the academic and social experiences of all these students and to foster a sense of unity among parents, educators, and administrators.
SEPTA is the only PTA in our district that includes teacher and administrator members alongside parents, supporting families from ages Pre-K to 21. We focus on destigmatizing special education, promoting tolerance, compassion, and appreciation for the broad spectrum of abilities and talents exhibited by all children.
We are a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental group, open to all parents—even if you don’t have a child with a known disability, but have concerns or suspect something might be different. Many of us have children with higher needs, so we understand the challenges and are here to help guide you with the next steps.
Even if you can’t attend our meetings, we want you to be part of our community. Please reach out through email to introduce yourself—we want to hear from you and welcome you and your children into our school community. SEPTA is about acceptance and inclusion, and we strive to create a supportive environment for all families.
